President's Message
Janet Bonner

We will celebrate our 39th year bringing opera production to the Stockton area with "Madama Butterfly " on January 11 and 13 at the University of the Pacific's Faye Spanos Concert Hall. Our producing stage director will be James Haffner, Director of Opera at the University of the Pacific, and Masestro Peter Jaffe of the Stockton Symphony will return as our music director.

We are working to build our financial reserves so we can again stage two productions during the year.  In August Shirley Dozier showcased our traditional Moonlight Melodies "Midsummer Night's Magic" in the quad area behind the Comservatory at the University.  Melissa Esau and Matthew Voyer with Jim Coleman at the piano treated us to the ballards of Maury Yeston- the moon rose over the spires of the campus- Opera Guild appetizers, a buffet dinner and beautiful "butterfly-themed" centerpieces created a beginning for our new year.

"Madama Butterfly" tickets will go on sale October 1st at the Pacific Box Office (Long Theater) and at Bookland in Lincoln Center.  We need to sell out our two performances and we're counting on you.  Volunteers are welcome to help with the production- home stays, costume work, and helping with future plans as a board member.  Call me if you want to get involved.
